Crazy Crepes

I like pancakes and ice cream and Crazy Crepes makes treats that combine both. Crepe is a French treat that is like pancake but is cooked thinly. It is usually served with just syrup or granulated sugar then drizzled with lemon juice. Some serve crepes with fruits and cream and sometimes ice cream. Crepes can also be served as a savory dish if you fill it with vegetables, meat and some cheese.

Wax crepes that look real.

From what I know, the Japanese were the first ones who tried shaping the crepes into cones and instead of stuffing the crepes then folding it, they fill the cones with the other ingredients such as the fruits and ice creams making it look like an ice cream cone. It's like a crepe on the go.

It is somewhat easier to eat since you just bite into it instead of slicing it with a fork and knife and you can eat it while traveling. You can also go creative by filling it with any ingredient you want be it fruits, ice cream or savory stuff like tuna, chicken, sliced vegetables, mayonnaise etc.

The Japanese however, serve it crispy while Crazy Crepes serve it soft. I prefer it to be crispy since it creates a contrast from the soft fruits and ice cream. I once asked the staff if they can serve it crispy but they said they can't and are not allowed to. It is still good even though it's not crispy. The crepe itself is delicious and they have lots of combination that you can choose from plus you can still add more ingredients if you want.

Besides the crepe, Crispy Crepe also serves parfaits. Their parfait consists of cereal and or fruits; non dairy whipped cream and topped with ice cream and syrup. I tried their chocolate parfait called Choco Cookies and Cream for 115 pesos and my friend tried the mangoes and cream called Mango Crumble for also 115 pesos. I am not a fan of non dairy whipped cream so I did not enjoy eating their parfait since it tasted dry but the mangoes and cream is okay since the mangoes were at least juicy.

Parfaits

As for the price, you can choose from their regular size which starts at 85 pesos to around 110 pesos and an additional 25 pesos will upsize it to a large crepe. The parfaits are priced at 115 pesos. Kind of expensive but it's nice to eat one once in a while.

Cello's Doughnuts

cheese and chocolate topped doughnuts
People have been raving about Cello's Donuts for the past few years and it was just a few months ago that I was able to try it. My friend and I were at SM North when we passed by their branch there. I was like, "Okay I gotta try this now!" And so I went inside their store and bought one donut. I bought the one with the chocolate topping with some crushed Oreos I think. Just when I saw it, I knew what it would taste like. I've heard people saying how soft the donut was and why you need to eat it fast before it gets cold. Their donut is yellow just like an ensaymada and I was not wrong, it even tastes like one. It was good, soft indeed, also like an ensaymada. I'm happy my curiosity has ended. I'm not saying it's not good but for me it tastes like ensaymada and so I'd rather go for the real one instead  and as for the price-30 pesos per donut, another reason not to buy one again, a bit expensive. Oh, and the one with cheese on top reminds me of another bread... the local cheese bread. I'm not trying to say it's bad, it's just not my type of donut.

Frozen Treat Review: Picole

Banana Split
Picole is a gourmet popsicle store. They already have quite a few stores in the metro and what I like about Picole is that their price is not that steep compared to other gourmet food shops. They have a wide array of flavors from fruit to chocolate to creamy and as well as yoghurt flavors. The price is also quite cheap. A stick costs around 30pesos and up depending on the flavor. When you bite into the popsicle, you can also taste or rather, feel the chucks of fruits. It's still more on ice coz it's a popsicle so don't expect to get a really creamy popsicle if you choose the dairy based flavors but for the price, it's worth trying the other flavors as well. For the service, the staff was really kind to even let us take a picture of unopened popsicles coz we already ate ours.

Restaurant Review: La Creperie @ Eastwood Mall

My friends and I love to eat and we also love trying different retaurants and food. One day, we were searching for a restaurant to eat since it was pay day and we saw this cute little restaurant in Eastwood Mall. It looked like a small doll house with nice white chairs and it's wall decorated with yellow and white striped wallpaper. It looked like a French Café. The restaurant is small and has only a limited number of tables, I think about 3 to 4 tables inside which can seat 4 people each. Everything is dainty in my opinion. If you like doll houses, you'll like the theme of the restaurant.

The restaurant I believe is also owned by the owners of the famous juice stand, Big Chill so they serve a lot of fruit shakes and drinks.

The menu consists mostly of French foods such as crepes, breads and pastas. We ordered carbonara, cheeseburger with I forgot what some rare cheese it had with fries on the side, French toast and for dessert, flambéed crepe with kiwis, mangoes and strawberries.

The burger was good but I think the meat was not that juicy but the cheese was quite different in a good way but not that spectacular.

The pasta is also on the dry side but was okay. The French toast is also good but it's your usual toasted bread with sunny side up and they added a bit of greens on the side. I think we liked the crepe the most. It has a bit of orange liquer and was served flaming. The fruits were sweet but not overly sweet and it complimented the thin crepe. I think it is best if you get it ala mode.

Since it's a relative of  Big Chill, we ordered fruit shakes as our drinks. We ordered kiwi and lychee shakes which are actually good and not too sweet.

We spent about 1000 pesos for all the food that we ate. I think it's quite expensive in my opinion since most of the dishes can only feed just one person, not really enough for sharing.

Panasonic Lumix LX5 White

My New Camera: Panasonic Lumix LX5

The reasons why I chose this camera are: first, I love art and photography is a form of art therefore I need a camera to do photography; second, I love to keep memories and taking pictures means you can preserve those memories not just in your mind but tangibly; third is because even though I already have cameras, the cameras that I have are old already and I even broke the auto focus of one of my cameras therefore it's not that accurate anymore and is hard to control; fourth is because this camera is compact unlike DSLRs, I can still place it inside my pocket or bring it anywhere easily; fifth is because this camera's picture quality is almost the same as DSLRs (of course DSLRs are much higher in terms of quality) and lastly, because it looks cool!

You can search it up on the web. Just type in Panasonic Lumix LX5. It's predecessor, Panasonic Lumix LX3 is also popular and was the top and best selling compact or point and shoot camera since its release 3 years ago and I think even until now.

Oh and if you're wondering what the black string is for, it came with the box and I have no idea what it is for so I used it as a string to hold the lens cap because it is very annoying to always hold the cap after taking it off just to take pictures worrying you might lose it. Panasonic should have provided an optional lens cap holder or at least a better string.

Maxim's Tea House

Maxim's Tea House is one of the best local Chinese restaurants for me in terms of taste. Their food is like comfort food, not the fast food type, since it is not a fast food restaurant but still not a fine dining one. The style of the restaurant reminds me of the restaurants during the early 90's, not that modern, and so maybe that's the reason why I find their food comforting. They serve the food quite fast and the food really tastes great, like it's homemade. The price is reasonable especially that they have combo meals now on their menu. Their combo meal which starts at around 90 pesos is like a lauriat with the viand, a vegetable side dish, rice and an iced tea. I guarantee that if you like Chinese food, go for Maxim's Tea House. They serve noodles, congee, dimsum, almost any famous Chinese dish, name it, they have it.

Condiments such as chili garlic, soy sauce and calamansi!

Yummy lumpiang shanghai and vegetables with shrimps! Delicious!

Sweet and sour pork with pancit canton and fried rice. Very delicious!

Events that happened to me recently.

Besides the fact that I got sick, lots of things happened the last two months.
I was actually transferred to a different account in our company which means I was trained again for 3 weeks.
Made some new friends.
I went to the province to retrieve something that really should be mine.
Bought a new camera. :D
I climbed the highest peak in Luzon which is also the 2nd highest peak in our country and my dream mountain.
Went to Manila Ocean Park.
Had a sleepover with my friends whom I haven't seen for the past 7 years.
Had a what we call "weight gain" party during the sleepover.
Celebrated Valentine's day with my family.
Started practicing swimming. *I still do not know how except to float*
Watched the World Pyro Olympics twice.
Been working on some legal (money) matters.
Org just had a new batch of future mountaineers.
Got addicted to colognes.

I cannot remember the rest but these are what I can remember. I try to make the most out of my weekend.

Back again

And I thought I will be able to update my blog last month.
I had my yearly flu last January.
I actually got sick for like 3 weeks. I was not bedridden but I had colds and I coughed for like weeks.
I use my voice in my line of work so it made my cough worse. I even asked my supervisor if I can work on other stuff without using my voice because I felt like my throat will bleed anytime soon. They did let me give my voice a rest but when the calls started queuing like crazy, I still had to take in calls which prolonged my cough....

It took almost a month before my cough went away. I actually had a slight fever but I still went to work. I was the only one working on my shift but I did not care that no one will be taking in calls because I really felt sick that time so for like almost a week I went to the clinic to ask permission to take a 1 hour rest. Everyday I also bring my own medicine because the nurse at our office does not know anything about medicine. I am not exactly sure why she is there.. maybe she is just a pretend nurse... hehe.. I actually told her I have a fever so my body is aching and guess what medicine she gave me.... she actually gave me.... Ibuprofen..... instead of paracetamol. Good thing she did not give me Mefenamic acid.  Last time she gave my colleague who had a fever and sore throat Erythromicin. I was like.... "WTH?"

Anyways, my cough went away after 1 month. I was even able to climb the highest peak in Luzon while coughing along the trail. hehe! I don't get sick that often but almost every year I get sick before, during or after my birthday I think because of the weather. Before I actually thought it was almost like a curse but then I realized that the weather during my birth month is cold that's why I usually get sick during that time of the year.

I hope I don't get sick anymore since Summer is already near and it means lots of traveling like going to the beach, sports activities, get together with friends etc. I am hoping that I get to update my blog again like before. I had been to lots of places, events, and restaurants that I want to share them all. If only I can just think and then the blog will be instantly posted here. hehe!

Welcome 2011!

I am sorry for not blogging lately...

In the industry that I am in... I need to work even during holidays and it's the first time that it happened to me. It's okay coz there is always a first time and since it's a holiday, we did not receive a lot of work so I just read ebooks at the office.
I work in Eastwood City where from the name itself, it's like a city but a very very tiny city. They called it that way because it's located in the East of Metro Manila and upon entering the place, you'll notice tall buildings, lots of restaurants, malls, condominiums and even hotels. I actually think it's like one of those villages in Role Playing Games where you have everything you need and you can walk around safely except when you go outside then you might mee monsters. xD
Anyway, the reason why I am explaining that is because Eastwood City is an event's place so last New Year's eve, they had concerts and a countdown to 2011. I went down our office building during my lunch break ( and yes my lunch break starts at midnight because I work at night so we can accommodate our clients from US) for the countdown to watch the fireworks display but since they banned using fireworks, the show ran for about 10 minutes only.
Last year, fireworks display ran for about 2 hours. People started lighting up their fireworks from 11pm until about 1am but this year, it was kinda boring but at least it made a difference in the number of New Year fireworks accidents.

Every year we get like 2000 fireworks accidents though this year I think we had around less than 1000 and yeah I agree that fireworks should be used by professionals only because it is really dangerous. Honestly I get scared during New Year's eve because of the fireworks. I don't go out once it gets dark because I know people will start lighting up fireworks and I feel like they might hit me but this year, I was able to go to the office safely with no fireworks exploding on the streets.
Anyway, the company provided a buffet but seriously, it was not good but at least we had food to eat so we did not have to go down to buy food. We did not have many clients so I just read ebooks and I was able to finish reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows since I haven't finished reading it though I watched the first part of the movie already. Good thing there wasn't any bosses around so I was able to sleep as well on my workstation. ;-)
Overall, it was a boring New Year for me but a different one. I was not able to be with my family but it's okay since I bet they just slept. xD
2010 was a great year for me. A lot of new things happened and GOOD ones! I am looking forward to 2011 and I am hoping that it will be even BETTER!
