Travel: Avilon Zoo

The "rotonda" near the entrance of Avilon Zoo. It contains lots of Iguanas.

Avilon Zoo is located in Montalban, Rizal. My friends and I went there last summer of April 21, 2010. It's a very famous zoo in the country and it is because they have some rare animals there that you won't see in any zoo here in the Philippines like the Arapaima Gigas (large carnivorous fishes), Malaysian Tapir (a two toned mammal), Philippine Tree Kangaroo and the White Tiger (not albino).

They have the usual animals like lions, turtles, fishes, birds.

They also have some animal shows where they let the birds fly or they let you touch the birds like eagles, owls, parrots and lets you take pictures with them for a fee.

Picture with the colorful birds. They are HEAVY!

Another unique thing with Avilon Zoo is that they also have dogs. We saw this very beautiful Samoyed. The Samoyed smelled very nice not the usual smell of dogs and this dog is huge! His name is Ula.

The Samoyed is so beautiful I had to take a picture with him!

In short, yo can get close to the animals because you can get a chance to touch them, and feed them like what we did to the arapaimas. Check our video for the arapaima.

All in all it's a nice place to visit if you're an animal lover. The place is quite big that you need to have at least 6 hours to enjoy the view of each animal plus take note of yor travel time because it's in Montalban, Rizal (about 2-3 hours ride from Quezon City). The entrance fee is arond 300 pesos but I assure you it's worth the price both kids and adults will definitely enjoy it there. Don't worry about your food because there is a cafeteria there and you can also bring food and drinks inside.
